Biography

Roberto Fernandez Acosta is a postdoctoral researcher in the Cell Death Signaling Lab led by Prof. Tom Vanden Berghe at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. His research focuses on overcoming therapy resistance in aggressive cancers by targeting dysregulated cell death pathways, with a particular emphasis on ferroptosis. He investigate how epigenetic reprogramming of oncogenic signaling networks can restore ferroptotic competence and sensitize refractory tumors (including high-risk neuroblastoma and lung cancer) to radiotherapy, ultra-high dose rate FLASH radiotherapy, and cold atmospheric plasma. His work integrates mechanistic discovery with translational development to advance combination strategies with clear potential for clinical and industrial application.
