Dr. Amrendra K. Ajay, PhD., is a faculty member at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA. His laboratory focuses on investigating therapeutic targets for rare cancers. Dr. Ajay did his PhD at the National Centre for Cell Science, Pune, India, where he investigated the signaling mechanism of chemotherapeutic drug-induced cancer cell killing of cervical cancer. He, for the first time, found that CKD5 phosphorylates p53, and activation of CKD5 leads to p53-dependent cancer cell killing. Further, he found that human papillomavirus protein E6 inhibits the phosphorylation of p53 expressed in HeLa cells. He published his findings in Molecular Cancer, Cell and Biosciences, and other peer-reviewed journals. He is interested in developing therapeutics for rare cancers.
